An Important Announcement For Our EZ TAG Customers

Annual adjustment approved by Harris County Commissioners Court

Beginning September 12, 2009, the EZ TAG rate for passenger vehicles will increase by five cents to $1.30 for main-lane toll plazas on the Sam Houston, Westpark and Hardy Toll Roads.

The Katy Managed Lanes and the Ship Channel Bridge are excluded from the rate adjustment, as are the entrance and exit ramps serving the entire system for standard, 2-axle passenger vehicles. Cash toll rates for standard 2-axle passenger vehicles remain unchanged.

Moving forward with system-wide improvements

The increase, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Houston, Galveston and Brazoria region, is an annual adjustment approved by Harris County Commissioners Court to help the toll road system keep pace with inflation and fund future improvements. Projects underway include lane widening at main-lane plazas to minimize congestion, technology enhancements and new, dedicated EZ TAG lanes.

Why only EZ TAG rates are affected this time

To minimize tollbooth congestion, the cash rates are rounded to the nearest quarter, which is why this year's annual adjustment translates into a five-cent increase for EZ TAG users only. Even so, the new $1.30 EZ TAG rate remains significantly lower than the current cash rate of $1.50.

A totally self-supported system

Harris County toll roads are some of the safest, best maintained and most technologically advanced in the country. Currently, the Harris County Toll Road Authority budgets approximately $135 million each year to operate and maintain the toll road system-every dollar of that investment exclusively from toll revenues.
