HCTRA Speed Limts Set and Reset at 65 MPH

In response to the TNRCC mandate that all speed limits be reduced to 55 MPH in the Harris County area, Commissioners and the County Attorney's office directed the Toll Road Authority to comply with the mandate. HCTRA began changing out the 70 MPH speed limit signs along the Sam Houston Tollway on the north section, just west of I-45 North on Saturday, April 27th and the speed limit change along the entire system was completed by May 1, 2002.

In October of 2002, the TNRCC mandate was overruled, and a compromise speed limit of 65 MPH was agreed upon. With Commissioners Court approval, the official speed limit along the Harris County Toll Road system was reset at 65 MPH and changes were completed by November 11, 2002.
