HCTRA's New Director

Harris County Commissioners Court has appointed H. Mike Strech, P.E. as Director of the Harris County Toll Road Authority.

Mike Strech has been with the Harris County Toll Road Authority since October of 1993 serving as the agency's Assistant Director Services. His responsibilities with the agency have included overseeing the HCTRA's engineering department and managing the maintenance, I.T. and services divisions.

Mike received his B.S.C.E. from Texas Tech in 1963 and began his engineering career in California with the Department of Water Resources. He later joined the firm of Brown & Root in 1965, and worked with them through 1971 in their industrial waste/water group. From Brown & Root, Mike joined Dannenbaum Engineering where he served for 22 years as a senior partner with responsibility for their operations division and later their transportation division. While with Dannenbaum, who was the GEC for the Toll Road Authority back in 1982, Mike led one of the design teams who helped in the early planning stages of the Sam Houston East facilities. He also led a design team in the final design of several segments on the original Sam Houston Tollway plan and the Hardy Toll Road project as well.

"I am extremely pleased to serve HCTRA as Director," Mike said. "We have seen tremendous growth over the years, and have a lot more to look forward to, having identified 15 major construction projects on our pooled facilities map. My goal is to move these projects from concept to completion," Mike continued, "and see how many we can get built during my tenure. I'm also looking forward to achieving our goals as they relate to the AVI system, and converting our system to one which is all-electronic in the near future."

HCTRA is pleased to welcome Mike to his new position as Director, and wishes him success in this new phase of his career.
